回:Song of the Sirens is the ninth mini album by GFriend. It was released on July 13, 2020 as their twelfth album overall. It comes up with 3 versions: Apple, Tilted and Broken Room. This is GFriend's second installment of the "回" trilogy.
The new mini album will be the second part of their “回” series, and will tell the story of a girl who finds her resolve weakening in front of temptation. If “回: Labyrinth” had expressed the complicated emotions of a girl standing in front of a choice that had to be made, this new album is set to follow the emotions of feeling like one made the right choice, but finding that certainty wavering at the thought of a different path.
Background and release[]
On May 25, an iMBC reporter reported that GFriend was to be making a comeback somewhere in July and was filming their M/V already. A Source Music representative reported that the comeback date was not confirmed.[1] On June 17, another reporter from OSEN, reported that they are preparing to release a new mini-album in mid-July. GFriend confirmed the release on Weverse fan community and the title being "回:Song of the Sirens". On June 30, the first round of teaser photos of the members were released, with the final batch being released on on July 4. On July 6, the title track and tracklist was revealed with the title track being "Apple".[2]
Composition[]
At their press conference, Yuju stated they all had a hand in creating their mini-album "回:Song of the Sirens". Eunha helped create the lyrics and compose their title track "Apple" and "Tarot Cards". Yuju also participated in the composition for "Apple" and "Eye of the Storm" along with Umji.
Promotion[]
Before the release of the album, a press conference was held where the group answered questions about their comeback and did other things as well. Two hours after the release, GFriend had a comeback showcase for the album hosted by actress and radio jockey Park So-hyun.[3] A statement was also issued by Music Core, that GFriend wouldn't be appearing on the program for "Apple" promotions.[4] On July 15, GFriend appeared on MBC FM4U’s “Kim Shin Young’s Hope Song at Noon” radio show. Member Yerin did not appear on the show with the rest of the group, due to she was resting after a trip to the hospital for acute gastroenteritis.[5] They made their comeback stage, on July 16, on M! Countdown with "Apple" along with BLACKPINK, SF9, AB6IX, and other artists.[6] On July 21, took their first win for "Apple" on The Show with a total of 9,180 votes, to VERIVERY's "Thunder" and Jeong Sewoon's "Say Yes".[7]
