GFriend Wiki

"Wheel of the Year" is the last track from GFriend's third studio album, 回:Walpurgis Night. It was released on November 9, 2020.

Background[]

It is a song that concludes the 'hwi(回)' series that tells a story about things that cannot be discussed regarding separation of the accumulated flowing time. Looking back towards confused and difficult past, at the end of that time’s wheel, you face a new time. As a result, another new wheel starts and our life will go on. Excluding the usage of the stimulating synths, the song arrangement only uses drums, bass, guitar, piano and strings where it sings a narrative that extends through out the whole 3 minutes 30 seconds rather than a song where all the developments takes place in the 1st verse. To deal with the stories from the previous albums meticulously, the restrained vocals up to before the last chorus increases the level of immersion. The piano arpeggios, which started with a low sound, gradually expanding with other instruments as the song progresses seems to sound like it keeps on repeating, but it actually resembles GFriend’s trace of wheels which gradually accumulates and expands.[1][2]
